Free scoring New England Patriots go up against miserly Seattle Seahawks - NFL Preview
A free scoring New England Patriots side will face off against the miserly Seattle Seahawks on Sunday October 14, 2012.
The Patriots are currently top of the National Football League (NFL) in points scored and with a quarterback like Tom Brady leading the offence that is no surprise.
Surprisingly though the Patriots this year are also making big plays on the rush leaving teams to contend with both Brady’s passing and runs from star running backs Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden.
New England is currently 3-2 and top of the AFC East division.
Brady like always has been the leading light passing for 1,450 yards and 8 touchdowns and with the quarterback in such good form it is no surprise that the Patriots are looking so good.
Averaging 439 total yards per game, the Patriots are destroying their opposition defeating the Peyton Manning led Denver Broncos 31-21.
Running back Stevan Ridley has played a major role in the Patriots brilliant performances playing a big part in defeating the Broncos.
The running back has rushed for 490 yards this year from 102 carries and scored four touchdowns.
Speaking about the offence’s brilliant performance Brady said:
"We're getting a lot of nickel defence. When they put little guys out there (in the secondary), we have to take advantage of it. I think we're playing definitely a more physical style and controlling the tempo of the game by running the football. We have to keep doing it. It's only been five games.”
Adding further he said:
"You can't just throw it all day. You can't just run it all day. You have to be able to do both."
The Patriots strong offence though will have to go through the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.
Seattle boasts the NFL’s meanest defence this season surrendering just 259 yards per game and the team’s defensive credentials will be tested to the fullest on Sunday.
In their 16-12 win over Carolina Panthers in week 5, the Seahawks gave up a season low 190 yards and their brilliant defensive performance showed just why they have the best secondary in the league.
The Seahawks offence has struggled to score points but could take advantage of a Patriots side that has allowed a total 372 yards on average per game.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has struggled during games but maintains that he can deliver.
He said:
"I use it as fire. I ignore the noise all the time, but at the same time I know that I have to get better."
This is a big game for both teams and the Seahawks home field advantage will make things even tougher for New England.
However, this Patriots side is experienced and fans can expect a brilliant matchup.
