free speech

what ever happened to free speech. this country as gone so politically correct. no one can say what they think. in fear of upsetting some one. if someone called me a Brit. its what i am. its just an abbreviation of the word British. so why is p**i. the abbreviation Pakistan. such an insult to the Asian community. i am in doubt that this post will get deleted. as free speech no longer applies in the UK. we are so h**l bent on pleasing the outside world. the the British people are becoming second best. i am not a racist. i am realist...

  1. Sure?

    It's free?

Have the monthly bills for free speech has been paid?

    If not paid .

    Then it would'nt be free.

Why not pay up the bills on time?

    Should be free by then.

    What do you think?

  2. There is no such thing as free speech. I am a teacher and am not allowed to teach my children nursery rhymes such as baa baa black sheep. However we still in the UK have a LOT more free speech than the USA, where I have been arrested for giving an opinion in a pub on the stupid war in Iraq...

  3. Isn`t p**i and acronym for Punjab and kashmiri Indian

  4. "the man" is ruining  free speech along with the ozone layer

"the man" is also ruining the music scene with genres like rap (retards attempting poetry) and pop (instant head ache)

  5. Good question.

Well...the thing is...Brit...as you said is an abbreviation for British..and you have to admit..it sounds really cool :P

But more importatntly .....its been generated by the Brits themselves,,,,

Whereas..p**i is a term used for the minority Pakistan community which has been generated by the people outside Pakistan....and its anything but  cool.....so p**i is a sort of exonym for Pakistan...whereas Brit is an endonym.....

Pakistanis themselves wouldnt call themselves p**i's..its a term generated by the westerners....and thats probably why it infuriates and sounds offensive to the conservative Pakistanis.

I personally don't prefer using such terms...

  6. A few years ago there was a case in Glasgow where an Asian shopkeeper had been assaulted and a man was arrested and sent for trial.   The accused had been reprimanded by the Sheriff (judge) for repeatedly using the word 'P@ki'.   Shortly after this, the shopkeeper came into the court to give his evidence and was asked to state his name and occupation.    His reply to his occupation?

I run a P@ki corner shop in .....!  So Pakistanis DO occasionally use the phrase themselves!

  7. I can't comment on your specific case but I can answer your general question. In Britain we are lucky to live in a country with total freedom of speech, within the limits of the libel laws and good taste. I've lived in and visited countries (especially in the Middle East) where no such freedoms exist. It is ghastly. So celebrate our freedoms don't knock them.

  8. It ended the day Tony Blair decided we would not have a democracy anymore aint ya noticed we live in oppressive times.  the jackboot has returned to Britian.  I'm not sure which law we are supposed to be living under since every culture basis its law on its religion. and every person acts according to their own.  its madness gone mad

  9. I'm not convinced that a fight for free-speech should rely solely on the premise that you want to refer to ethnic minorities in what are, whether you like it or not, derogatory stereotypes! To me free speech is about having a right to ask difficult questions of the governing powers. In China it is unlikely you will get pulled up for racial stereotyping - is that the kind of free-speech you want? Does someone of Indian descent who is referred to as a "p**i" not have the right to complain?

  10. Free speech means you are free to say whatever you want as long as you accept the consequences. Try to tell your boss that he is an idiot and see what happens.

  11. It all started to go wrong in the nineteen forties and fifties, when mass immigration really began.

Since then, it has become more and more difficult to say what you want to say - without offending somebody.

Heaven knows where it will all end up !

  12. i find your question offensive.mmm

  13. It's being held in Broadmoor along with a sense of humour.

  14. Free speech only applies if you dont actually say anything... Political correctness is not applied by Politicians...

  15. Free speech went west a long time ago, along with plain common sense!

  16. jihad on you!!

  17. I have often wondered why it is so offencive to be called that.  The trouble is you can't be politically correct about the tone of voice or the derogatory state of mind behind the person calling someone that word.  It is easier to ban the word, rather than the mindset.

It reminds me of the term "coloured" - why is it so offensive, rather than "white", which is similar?

I do think we need to claim back words to their proper original meanings.  And I'd like to start with "g*y" - there's nothing wrong with being homosexual.

  18. Free speech is still alive and well in the UK. As another poster stated, it operates within the constraints of the laws of libel, slander and hate promotion.

Why would you want to refer to someone as "p**i" when you are already aware that this has been used as a term of abuse by those who are racist? Also, how do you know that they are from Pakistan and not India or Sri Lanka or Bangladesh etc?

I don't feel unable to say what I think or feel and I too am a realist!
