  1. Go watch some local suburban footy, have a meat pie and a beer, kick a footy at half time and listen to the coaches 3 quarter time speech.  That's a classic Melbourne thing to do, and free too.

  2. One of my favourite things to do in Melbourne is to go to the Queen Victoria Market. It's huge and all under cover with heaps of atmosphere and only a short tram ride down Elizabeth Street.

Fed. Square is always worth checking out - they often have free activities there.

Watch the buskers in Bourke Street. Some of them are very entertaining and talented.

Hop on a tram and go to the Shrine of Rembrance - Guided tours at 11.00am and 2.00pm every day. Incredible place - unusual and very interesting (and free).

Go to the National Gallery of Victoria (the Art Gallery) in St Kilda Road

If you are with children, go to Scienceworks out at Spotswood. Adults cost $6 but kids are free and they'll love it. The Planetarium is there too. Not free, but very cheap.

Go to the Museum. Not free but adults are only $6 - great place.

I don't live in Melbourne, so there must be heaps of other free things to do that I don't know about.

    Enjoy!
