Free upgrades at RIU Palace Las Americas?

I am going to the RIU Palace in July and I have heard a few people mention that when you go you can ask to be upgraded to an oceanview room when you check in. Is this true and is it free? thanks

I've stayed there twice...it's a really nice place...not so sure about the upgrades though.  I would ask my travel agent or either call the hotel directly and ask them about their policy on that.
