Question:

Free writing and automatic writing tips?

From what I know, free writing is impulsively writing whatever comes to mind, and auto-writing is writing subconsciously. I write songs when I feel inspired, but when I want to write something, nothing comes to mind. I feel there is a lot locked within my mind that wants to be set free, but I can't set it free and say what I really want to say. In other words, I have trouble freely expressing myself.

I read a little about these ways of writing, and it's peaked my interest. If there are any free-writers or auto-writers out there who can do so, could you give me some tips? Thanks in advance.

  1. I'm not a writer, but I have the same problem, I like to write comedy.  The harder I try the worse it get.  But sometimes especially at night when everything is silence when an idea comes to my mind, I have a peace of paper and pencil ready and I write down any idea.  It's easy to write when you are inspired, especially when you are in love.  I think the thing is write whatever comes to your mind, then you go back rewrite and rewrite and don't feel bad if it doesn't come perfect.  Most people who are a good writer have the same problem.

  2. We had to do this back in middle school once. You just look around, and the first thing you see (from a chair to a stain on the ceiling or whatever) you just have to start writing about it. Make up stuff.
