Freebirds vs. the Von Erichs who was better?

The Freebirds were the best team in that feud because they travelled from East to West within the NWA banner and took on all comers.  They also lit up Turner's World Championship Wrestling from Georgia (precursor to the TBS WCW) when they challenged the Road Warriors in the 80's.

The Von Erich's mostly tag teamed when the Freebirds visited Texas and surrounding areas, otherwise David, Kerry and Kevin concentrated on trying to beat Ric Flair for his NWA Championship.

The original Freebirds (Gordy, Hayes and Roberts) over The Von Erichs, but I would take the Von Erichs over Hayes and Jimmy Garvin

If you're talking about characters..the Freebirds had the better gimmick...and they were way over during their tenure in WCCW. But Terry Gordy was their best wrestler..and the only one that could put on a classic match in that group. No disrespect to Michael Hayes..but he was better at the promos than the actual wrestling..he's said that himself.

The Von Erich's had Kerry, and David who were excellent in the ring..as well as Kevin,who were the best wrestlers out of the brothers, who all had a great rough style in the ring. So wrestling wise I think the Von Erich's have the edge there.

I can't compare whether the Von Erich's characters could've been as popular as the Freebirds in the long run because of the tragic deaths of all the Von Erich's besides Kevin..though they were huge in Texas..we can't really tell what would've happened outside of Texas if not for the tragedies. While The Freebirds maintained their popularity even when they changed members and added Jimmy Garvin to join Michael Hayes. So in that sense it's toss up.

Wrestling wise though I'll give the edge to the Von Erichs.

Freebirds...simply because of Michael P.S. Hayes's charisma...he caught the crowds attention and the viewers attention as well..the Von Erichs were the all american boys..they were your all around good guys that everyone loved...the Freebirds brought a lot to the table, their charisma well Michael Hayes did anyway, their bad guy attitude, and their belief in being the ultimate bad guys....

The heels were always better during the good old NWA era.
