Question:

Freeview Coverage Question?

by  |  earlier

I used the availability checker on www.freeview.uk. It tells me my current address cannot recieve freeview until the switchover on 2012. However my old address a mile and a half away can recieve it now. Both addresses are serviced by the exact same transmitter. Both addresses are within the same city. I dont get it? Can my new address definitely not get freeview? I dont want to fork out for a freeview aerial if it wont work.

Thanks

  1. The website told me I wouldnt get signal but my friend who lives round the corner (literally a 2 min walk) did so I bought a freeview box anyway. And don't get any signal at all. So I wasted the money on the freeview box. I should have listened to the website!

  2. You could try checking which direction (with a compass to help) your roof top aerial is pointing.

It may be pointing at the wrong (non-freeview) transmitter, There is probably another Transmitter to point at which does give a freeview signal.

You can move the aerial if its pointing in the wrong direction (if you don't mind heights). You may also need to change the polarization. (arms pointing up or horizontal)

Can you give us your postcode? So we can look to see which transmitter choice you have.

  3. Itr says my address doesn't have coverage aswell but I have all of the channels. It may be worth getting an aerial just incase Maplin had some good ones for £25. See if any of you neighbours have it if you talk to them.

  4. it just happens sometimes. some parts in my uni have very strong signal while others dont have any.

save ur money just in case. unlikely u'll get it otherwise

  5. I does depend on location, I have the same problem, a mile from me, on higher ground, can receive freeview, I cant, so I got Freeview from Sky through a satellite dish, but this is costlier, than through an aerial.....speak to an aerial installer, they should be able to help

  6. In the town I live in I have to have an all singing and all dancing roof aerial to get my free view, 10 minutes up the road my friend has a perfect picture with a small indoor aerial.

Why not knock on a few doors where you live now and see if someone else has free view and what they have to do about getting a good picture.

  7. I bought a freeview box over 2 years ago, they told me my postcode isnt in a reception range. I bought one and recieve 82 channels.

Just buy one and try it, i guarantee youll pick up more channels than your getting now.
