Question:

Freeview box?

On some channels the picture keeps freezing for a few seconds, then it will eventually carry on.. it`s really irritating. We`ve got a loft ariel, keep messing around with it - it was perfect for a while and now its started again... Is it the signal? How can we rectify this?

  1. It would be better if you had a roof aerial, but to be fair I have one and occasionally get 'picture freeze'. Sometimes it can be the weather, if it's bad, but it can also be the signal. You might not be in a 'strong signal' area. Things will get better as the switch to digital progresses and more, and stronger signal transmitters are erected. Check your signal here -

  2. Yes this usually happens when there is a poor signal coming through to the box. You may be able to adjust this by changing the direction of your ariel but this will probably have little or no affect. Your best bet would be to get a signal booster or a new ariel.

  3. Try getting a booster

  4. Traffic especially motorbikes can interfere with the signal.

If you live next to a road you'll just have to put up with it.

Ok who's the idiot that thumbed me down?

  5. First of all you would be better of with a new external aerial, but at the moment, digital is only being transmitted at reduced power as it would affect the analogue TV signals.

Free view boxes, and indeed televisions with Free view tuners built in, still have to be re tuned every now and again, as the signal suffers from "freezing" and "dropouts". but when we all switch to digital TV the problems with signals should cease.
