If the Freeview signal is a few seconds behind the normal analog signal, why is it that the time countdown on BBC News 24 matches up?

  1. maybe they transmit it a split second before the actual time ;o)

Digital transmissions are a fraction behind normal analogue signals because the video and sound has to be encoded into MPEG2 before it is transmitted and then once received by your freeview box, buffered and decoded back into a video signal your television can display. That all takes that noticable second or so.

  2. no idea why but digital etc is behind a few seconds, i noticed that awhile when someone in the other room had to tv on the same programme and it was repeating everything a few seconds later...annoying!
