I saw that in Asda there was an offer on a freeview box which was a tv recorder aswell as pausing live tv. Can you just plug it into your tv without getting a satalite dish and how does it work? It was £79.. is this a good deal?

  1. Ask your neighbours. See if any of them get freeview. You may have the best aerial and still get hardly any channels. Or get yourself a cheap one with recording and try it out.

    The link below may help.

  2. freeview boxes work off your existing ariel that you watch TV on. sometimes you might have to replace it if it dosnt pick up channels, but that could jsut be a badly wired ariel on the end that you plug in.

you should check online befor buying for cheaper ones.

  3. Basically:

If you weren't sure, Freeview is digital teresteral televison. You can get some Freeview boxes which just give you your free digital channels (Freeview - http://www.freeview.co.uk), some boxes which can pause, rewind and record live television (Freeview Playback - http://www.freeviewplayback.co.uk) and some made by Top Up TV which is a Freeview box with some pay channels which you can pay for for around £5 (http://www.topuptv.com).

Freeview Playback works the same way as a Sky+ box (for satellite television by Sky) and V+ box (for cable television by Virgin Media). Sky is the best if you want a huge range of television channels. If you want to keep it simple, you can get over 40 free television channels and over 20 free radio channels, Freeview would be the best option. Find out the channels here: http://www.freeview.co.uk/channels

    Good Points:

I the phone rings, you need to dash to the toilet or a plane crashes into your roof, all you need to do is press the pause button, then you can just press play when you're ready.

If you need to go out and you realise it's the last showing of your favourite TV programme, your favourite programme is about to start and you can't be bothered to watch it when it's on or something, you can set to record it and watch it when you like.

    Bad Points:

You need to pay the one off fee of the digital box.

You need to pay your TV licence.

You need to have a strong arial suitable for digital TV. If it's about 10 years old you'll probably likely have to replace it unless if it's a good quality strong arial.

You need to make sure that Freeview is available in your area. You can find out here: http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability

If you need any other information or help you can have a look at the help sections:
