I dont know whats wrong with it, the fridge is not working at all, if it is, barely keeping anything cooler than room temp.

Anything I can do by myself before calling a repairman?

  1. there is a fan that circulates the cold air from the freezer side to the cold food side. I t probably need replacing. You can usually here this fan when you open the refrig door. Sometimes you will need to depress the button that makes the light come on because the fan is shut down when the door is opened.

  2. I just had this happen with a top mount freezer/fridge. With mine there is passage for the cold air to travel from the freezer to the fridge. Apparently it will freeze up and block the cold air. I took everything out and turned it off for about 24 hours and let it thaw. Turned it back on and it worked fine. Check my questions for the responses.

  3. If the freezer is cold and the refrigerator is not, the cold air from the freezer is not getting to the refrigerator.  Check to be sure the fan is running.  There could also be a flapper between the freezer and the refrigerator that is frozen, so a manual defrost might be in order.  See here for some troubleshooting tips:

  4. Make sure it isn't sitting near your stove or another heat source.

    Defrost it.

    Try using another plug.

If none of these help, call repairman.
