Freeze brand. Where do I go and what are the steps to have my own freeze brand to put on my horse?

I have mare that came with no papers and I want to put some identification/proof of ownership on her. What are the steps, and where do I go to get my freeze brand?

P.S. I contacted AQHA and APHA and tried to contact previous owners and no one knows who her parents are or when she was born.

Your Vet can do this. I use an tattoo instead on my Horses upper lip. Also done from my Vet!

Also for identification/proof you can have Photos of both your Horse's Side. Front and back, in case he ever comes up stolen. God forbid this from ever happening.

Keep a History on your Horse's in separate folders.

It can be a real let down to have a Beautiful APHA with no history or Papers!

the only time i heard of a freeze brand put on a horse is in the arab show world. . . my horse had one put on when she was young. from what i gather it's something that comes with the paper work. . . aka when they get reg they get their brand.

so if you cant find the papers chances are your never really going to have paper work for her. as for branding to id the horse, to me that sounds like a good idea, and maybe ask a notery to draw up something that can legally id the horse's ownship. . . i dont think they'd count for shows that demand paper work, but it'd be good for legal reasons.

ask a vet for branding info, they would know who would be the safest for the horse to do them (if they dont do them themselves.) and a local vet for you may know someone who can find paper works as well.

first you have to contact the state division of livestock and get a brand registration form,then you have to come up with a brand that is within the state and county guidelines.then you have to send the form in to the state along with an application fee so they can go thru their records so that the one you want is not owned by someone else.if they find your brand is acceptable they will issue a permit in your name (or the name of an adult).after they issue a brand certification you can send a picture of your brand to a company that casts brands in bronze, then after they cast it they will send it back to you(this will take a month or more).after you recieve your brand you will need to rent or buy a container that will hold liquid nitrogen (some companys will rent one to you for a small fee plus the cost of the nitrogen)then you will need to find a set of stocks that you can use (WARNING do not do this out in the open and without a set of stocks)some vets will do it for you and this takes some special protective gear for your safety.
