The manager admits the team will have to work hard for the huge challenge and also hinted of activity in the January transfer window.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 have been very disappointing this season and are currently bottom of the Bundesliga table with only 13 points, halfway through the season. The side’s displays have been in complete contrast to their performances in
the previous campaign when they secured an impressive ninth place finish.
Christian Streich was promoted to the managerial post when Marcus Sorg was released last month, after a series of disappointing results. The manager admitted that it will be a huge challenge for Freiburg to stay in the Bundesliga
for another season but his team will give their all to make sure it happens.
The tactician revealed that the club is looking to sign some players in the January transfer window to strengthen the squad. He admitted that the team needs to recruit players who are strong defensively as there have been a lot
of goals scored against them in the first-half of the campaign.
“It's a huge challenge, no two ways about it. But we'll face up to it full-on and as a team we'll be doing everything in our power to ensure we're still in the Bundesliga at the end of May. The defensive play of the team as a whole
has been the biggest problem. We need to work on that, and become more focused when possession changes sides,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Bundesliga.de.
The former Assistant manager added that every game left in the league is of enormous importance and the side cannot afford to lose more games. He regarded the remaining 17 games as ’17 finals’ and is hopeful of keeping the club
in the first-division when the season ends.
“It's no mini-final and we certainly wouldn't be doing ourselves any favours by saying it was. In that sense, we have 17 finals ahead of us, and anything can happen,” he concluded.
SC Freiburg will face fellow struggler FC Augsburg at home in their next Bundesliga fixture. A win would be vital for the hosts as they would leapfrog their opponents to 17th place on the league table.
