The tactician admits that the Senegalese striker deserved the transfer but his replacement can be hard to find.
Papiss Demba Cisse secured a transfer to English side Newcastle United last week for an estimated fee of 10 million pounds. The striker was the second highest top goalscorer in the Bundesliga last season and played a vital role
in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462’s impressive campaign last term.
Christian Streich claimed that the striker’s departure is surely a huge loss for the club, considering the place they sit on the standings table. He admitted that the player deserved to play in a bigger club and in a better league
to prove his credentials. The manager added that it would be almost impossible to find a replacement for the attacker as he was a great player with an excellent eye for goal.
"As sad as it is, it is quite normal for a club like Freiburg. Papiss deserves this transfer, even if it does not make things any easier for us. Papiss is irreplaceable in Freiburg, but we can compensate for things as a team,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Assistant manager of the club insisted that the side will not be safe with a win against FC Augsburg on Saturday. He added that the team will have to show a lot of determination and have to work hard to avoid relegation.
However, he remained confident that the side is capable of producing results and that the fans will see an improved side in the second-half of the campaign.
“We are not safe if we win tomorrow. Just like if we lose, we are not relegated. Of course it is an important game and it would be fantastic if we can start with a win, which would give us a bit of breathing space above 18th place,”
he concluded.
SC Freiburg are currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga table with 13 points from the 17 games played thus far and have won only three times all season. A win against FC Augsburg this weekend would see them leapfrog their opposition.
