  1. le/la/les/l' replace a direct object (not introduced by a preposition)

'lui' replaces an indirect object (introduced by a preposition).

In French, 'to visit (someone)' is 'rendre visite à' , the expression has preposition 'à' therefore the answer is....?

  2. Je rends visite à .... (person) means "I pay a visit to..."

    Say if your sentence is

Je rends visite à Jane  -  I pay Jane a visit.

If you want to say "I pay her a visit" so you're replacing "Jane" ... you use "lui"

    Je lui rends visite.

    Or if your sentence is

Je rends visite à Jane et Philip  -  I pay Jane and Philip a visit.

To say "I pay them a visit" you use "leur"

    Je leur rends visite.

You use "lui" and "leur" when the verb is follwed by "à"

If you were to say, though...

Je vois Jane  -  I see Jane

There's no "à" after the verb "voire" so to say "I see her" you use "la"...

    Je la vois.

    Le - male

    La - female

    Les - plural

L' - next word begins with a vowel.

    Hopefully that makes sense!!
