French DVD play?

I want to buy a DVD off eBay (French eBay). It is a movie that is not available in English. If I buy it from a french seller, will i be able to watch it on my player? My friend told me she could not play her UK DVDs on her player in the US.

Your friend is correct, a standard French DVD won't play on a US DVD player unless your player is zone-free or multi-zone. The US is in zone 1 whereas Europe is in zone 2. I bought a multi-zone DVD player for that reason. You can buy one online for really cheap. You may have to enter a code to erase the regional coding and make it international but it's pretty easy.

I remember being frustrated with it not working the fist few minutes, it's because I had not seen the small piece of paper in the box with the code I had to enter to make it work.
