French Ferry Strike?

Are the truckers "stacking up" not wanting to use the P&O ferries as an alternative, or is it they are full?

  1. There is only so much capacity so the lorries get stacked up as they just can't get a crossing. They don't do it through choice, would you want to sit in a lorry parked on a closed motorway for 3 days waiting to get across the Channel?

Being as I live in Kent near to the M20 where they stack the lorries I find the whole thing a pain. Every time the French play up the M20 has to be turned into a lorry park as they just cannot get on the ferries or train. This is a total nightmare for those of us who live in the area as the main motorway is then shut to all traffic meaning that all the other roads get clogged up.

Can I and the truck drivers claim compensation off the French unions do you think?

  2. P&O can only operate at its maximum capacity. Take Sea France out of the equation and the number of available crossings is dramatically reduced.

P&O is dearer than Sea France. Tunnel (freight) is dearer than both ferry companies, and many hauliers may be tied to freight accounts with one company or the other.
