French Ligue 1 Week 11 review – Part 1
Week 11 in the French top flight saw Paris Saint-Germain’s unbeaten streak come to an end at the hands of an inspired Saint-Etienne side, and Olympique de Marseille returned to winning ways in style with a convincing 2-0 over Ajaccio
AS Saint-Etienne crushed PSG’s hopes of remaining unbeaten throughout the season and join the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Juventus to become the invincibles. Les Parisiens’ 2-1 defeat at their own backyard proved that the cash-laden club from Paris is indeed beatable.
Les Verts Rock the Parc
It was arguably the biggest game of the season for the club from Eastern-Central France and they picked the perfect time to bring their A game. Undaunted by the uphill task of facing the oil-money-fuelled club from Paris, Les Verts showed the remaining teams
in the league that PSG are beatable after all.
ASSE’s win over the Parisiens wasn’t just http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444. The visitors came prepared and played with a proper game plan. Their top scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s introduction changed the face of the game and Saint-Etienne pressed their opponents to great
effect. It was Aubameyang’s cross that was turned home by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mamadou-Sakho-c23293 providing Christophe Galtier’s side to take control of the game.
Another goal from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guillaume-Hoarau-c15332 managed to pull one back for the hosts, it was too little too late and the match ended in the favour of Saint-Etienne.
“It's a real achievement to come and win in Paris. I'm really happy my players could win a match like that, because they deserve it with everything they've been doing for some time now,” said Saint-Etienne coach, Christophe Galtier.
Marseille keeping up the pace
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 made sure that they take full advantage of Paris Saint-Germain’s slip up against Les Verts with a comfortable 2-0 victor over Ajaccio away from home. The Rhone giants and Les Parisiens have 22 points on the table but Marseille have
one game in hand, after their match against Lyon in Week 10 was postponed due to bad weather.
The win against Ajaccio was Les Phoceens’ first in four matches in all competitions and the nine-time champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929 put the game to bed with a strike in the dying moments
of the game.
Elie Baup’s men trail league leaders, PSG on goal difference but are only one point ahead of third-place Lyon, and the coach knows that any slip up at this stage would be catastrophic for the Rhone giants.
Goals galore at Stade de Gerland
According to Lyon coach, Remi Garde, it was a crazy game and the fact that both Les Gones and Bastia had to play with ten men on the pitch, added to the excitement of the game.
Les Gones scored couple of early goals and looked on course to seal a comfortable win at Stade de Gerland. But SC Bastia struck back to get on level terms before half time. However, Remi Garde’s side managed to take control of the game after the break and
scored three more, two of which were in the injury time.
"It was a crazy game and it became completely mad after both teams had had a player sent off. On the positive side, we played well going forward and created lots of chances. But defensively we got ourselves into trouble rather easily,” the Lyon coach said
at a press conference.
