French Lops Bunny help?

Hi, I have a Netherlands Dwarf, he's very small so therefore so is his cage. Do you think he would get along with a rabbit of different breed? I'm really looking forward to a French Lops Rabbit. Can anyone tell me if they can be together? My Netherlands Dwarf is a male if it helps, I'm almost positive the cage is too small, if I get another cage, how much would the estimate price be and can I put both in there?

  1. I would not keep them together.  You didn't mention whether your dwarf was intact (not neutered) but male rabbits will fight and your dwarf (one of the smallest breeds of rabbit) won't stand a chance against a French Lop (one of the largest breeds of rabbit).  If you get a female and your male is intact, you will have babies... even with the size difference.  I am not sure you want to go there either.

They also have different housing requirements - a lop needs a BIG cage (at least 4 feet long) and it must have solid flooring (no wire).

    Best bet?  Keep them apart.

  2. Hi :D

French lops are gorgeous! This is what I would do if I were you,

Go to your local animal shelter and find a nice tempered female (MUST be female) French lop. If you find one you really like and she is rather large, make sure she is cailm. If would probably help if she was older than 1-3 yrs old as well. It will cost you $50 which includes the spaying! Which you will need to get done in order to have these rabbits together. If she is not spayed there is no way they can live together. They will either fight or fight and mate lol. If you bought a male you would have fights the whole time. My local humane soceity has nice used big cages for so cheap! It's amazing! The exact same cage from the pet store would cost you $150ish. At the pound it's $40-$50! I would buy a bigger cage for them there. (This is only if they are indoors however. I haven't seen an outdoor cage at the humane s. but they might have them.) If you want to keep them in a hutch outside either go to Farm N Fleet, or pet co/smat and see if they have any. If you don't see any big enough you can order one. Ask them if they know if you can order one within the store. If you can't go to the magazine section and find Rabbit USA I think it is. They will probably have an add about cages, they did last time I looked. If you can't find it there. Try the internet or just make one. :D.

So, if the Lop is not spayed yet the vet will have you schedule to get her spayed probably within a week. You will need to keep your old cage and keep your Dwarf in it for the mean time. With your new cage set them towhere they are facing each other so they can see one another and get used to the other. Once she's spayed (And her stiches are healed pretty well.) but them together but keep an eye on them!
