The giant Olympic rings that the French promised the English will be ready for public viewing today.
The French had agreed that they are good with granting their services in order to install Olympic rings at the entry point of the Channel Tunnel. These rings will be are of a gigantic nature and are present near Calais.
These rings are situated at the entrance of the tunnel that will serve to provide one of the main entry points for the Olympic tourists to enter the Queen’s land. The tourists from all across Europe will be facilitated by the tunnel to commute to England
in order to view the Games.
The rings are present in the official colours of the Olympics and are each as high as 9.4 metres and as wide as 4.6 metres. The project of making the rings was mainly handled by the Olympic Committee of France but the Eurotunnel also helped in providing
financial support to the organization.
France and England were initially rivals for hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics and England successfully beat the French to the bid. While the bid was being made in Singapore way back in 2005, Paris was the top bet for winning the bid but London was finally
able to topple the French hopes and secure itself the Olympic Games.
Lord Coe, who is the chief of the London Organizing Committee for Olympic Games, expressed himself on the matter in the following words, “For visitors travelling from Europe (the rings) will inspire and excite them about the Olympics taking place in London
and demonstrate that we are ready to welcome the world in 2012.”
The Olympic Games are heading towards London for the third time in the city’s history. After the capital of England will have staged the Games for the third time, it will become the first city in the world to have hosted the Games for a total of three times.
The first time the Olympics came to London was in 1908 while the second time was almost half a century later in 1948. The third time London hopes to stage the best Olympics ever.
