Here is the Bold Prediction before the match
Bold Prediction: With Nadal being Nadal of previous years, it is very hard to go against probably the best clay court player of all-time. Almagro on the other hand must channel his temper into good play for him to be the second player to beat Nadal in the French Open.
Four-time Frehcn Open title holder, Rafael Nadal is is set to face Nicolas Almagro. The previous four-time Roland Garros champion Nadal and Almagro will battle it out for a Spanish quarter-final.
Nadal, who is currently the second seed in the tournament and a previous World No. 1, breezed past the initial four rounds of the Roland Garros to get a shot at another title.
The current world number two has beaten the likes of top ranked Thomaz Belluci from Brazil. Currently, Nadal is working on defeating fellow Spanish Almagro to proceed into the finals with a possible square off with world number one Roger Federrer.
Before reaching the quarterfinals, the world number has had his fair share struggles particularly against his Brazilian opponent.
Before grabbing 200th victory on clay court, Nadal evidently did not play in top form as his lost four points during his server to Belluci. It took the four-time French Open winner a while before he was able to breeze past Belluci to snag a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 win.
The match between the top ranked Brazilian and world number two lasted for two hours and 33 minutes.
Nadal expressed his thoughts on his preceding matches between the quarter-finals. The four time winner shared that he expects each match in the quarterfinal to be difficult.
Previously, Nadal and Belluci faced off back at the 2008 Roland Garros only for Belluci to get ousted in the first round.
Nadal further said that Belluci was an extremely good player on clay with a good backhand, forehand and service. It took him some time before saved points and pushed for a turnover.
Nonetheless, the world number two is set on changing his fate in this year’s tournament. He lost to Soderling back in 2009 and suffered his only loss in the Roland Garros.
The world number two is intent on facing world number one Roger Federrer. Nadal has taken into consideration his defeat over Soderling in the previous year.
While the former world number one may have struggled in rankings, losing his world number one, he was able to move back to the second spot which raised hopes that a clash between the world’s two is in place.
Nadal was awarded Prince of Asturias Award for Sports back in 2008 as acknowledgement of what he has achieved so far in tennis.
Just as Rafael Nadal is fighting for his place to a title spot in the Roland Garros, Nicolar Almagro is also causing quite the upset for other players as he advanced into the quarterfinals.
Almagro had previously defeated fellow Fernando Verdasco. He snatched a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 over Verdasco during the fourth round program.
His victory over Verdasco guaranteed Almagro a spot in the last eight and for a chance at the title. However, the road to the Roland Garros finals may not be very easy as he will have to contend with top rank players. In either case, Almagro is banking on unique playing style to bring him further into the French Open.
Almagro has an offensive type of baseliner tennis play. Matching with his spindly frame, it is not very common for a player to adopt such.
Almagro’s edge over the upcoming match will have to be his forehand side which has always been delivered with so much power. One disadvantage though is that Almagro have temper issues and can flare up when playing matches.
