French Open: Michael Campbell ends the 1st round with a good start
The biggest names in golf are fighting it out at the French Open 2012. The venue for the event is Le Golf National, one of the most difficult courses on the European Tour.
The professional golfer from New Zealand is off to a good start. Campbell started off his front nine with six consecutive pars.
He was able to card a birdie on the seventh and then scored two more pars. After the front nine, his total score was one-under par.
He had even a better start to the back nine. He was able to bag two birdies on the first two holes of the back nine. However, the end of the day was not that good for the 43-year-old.
He scored a double bogey on the fifteenth and a bogey on the seventeenth hole. His score on the back nine became one-over par.
Campbell covered the 7347 yards course in 71 shots. So he ended the first day at Le Golf National on par. He his six strokes away from the leader of the tournament, Christian Nilsson.
As the first day ended, Michael Campbell was tied at the 42nd position with 19 other players. The list included the Englishman Justin Rose, Mark Foster, Robert Allenby, Francesco Molinari and Robert Rock.
Campbell’s best performance in the French Open was in the year 2006, when he finished the course tied at the third position. He is a player with tremendous amount of potential. He can still pull it off. He just needs to exhibit a good performance in the
next three days.
Even on the first day, he could be on the top, if it had not been for that double bogey on the fifteenth hole and the bogey on the seventeenth hole. It was just bad luck for the player.
Day one ended at the Le Golf National with Christian Nilsson on the top, with a magnificent six-under par.
Boyd Garry, Matteo Manassero and Jaidee Thongchai ended their first day with five-under par and all of them were tied at the second position.
Three days left in the French Open, still anyone could win it.
