French Open Novak Djokovic Vs Jurgen Melzer Results

Novak Djokovic can't believe after he let the lead of a lifetime slip from his hands. How Djokovic let a two set lead slip away and let Jurgen Melzer powered back to win is still not setting well with lots of poeple. But full credit goes to Melzer who will be facing semi-final clash with the king of clay Rafael Nadal.

It is true that Djokovic was not in full form due to allergy problems but now that he is out of the French open he has all the time to rest.  but early in the game he didn't let any problems pull him back, he raced to a two set lead and when he broke in the third it looked like Melzer’s run had come to an end but they say its never over until it is over. Melzer, who had never made it to the quarter final of a Grand Slam, started to play the game of his life and showed the world he has the full right to face Rafael.

Here is the bold prediction before the match

Bold Predictions: Melzer is an up and coming star with solid all-around game, his net-play is always a lethal weapon against top-seeded players such Djokovic. On the other hand, Djokovic is hungry for his first Grand Slam title after several failed tries. This match is expected to go the limit with Melzer stunning Djokovic.

The last eight of the French Open will match the 22nd seed Jürgen Melzer to the 3rd seed Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

Both players successfully surpassed the fourth round program with Djokovic defeating Robby Ginepri and Melzer tramping over Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Previously Djokovic won over Victor Hanescu to earn his spot in the fourth round. Djokovic won by a 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2. While Djokovic passed the fourth round to play at the quarterfinals, the journey had not been as smooth sailing.

Djokovic had to put up with Hanescu’s resilience at one point in their match. There was one time that his frustration became evident when he pumped his fists and furiously threw his racket on the clay court.

Fortunately, Djokovic was able to benefit from the break. He won six games consecutively during the fourth set and concluded the match when Hanescu incurred a service turn effort. Djokovic ended his third round match in 2 hours and 38 minutes.

Djokovic, who currently ranked as the world number 2, believes that his playing form will just serve him right in the quarterfinals. Djokovic is certain that he can match the upcoming challenges of the Roland Garros.

However, amidst his declared optimism on his quarterfinal bid, Djokovic that he had not been that impress on clay courts.

Further, he pointed out his performance back in the 2009 supporting his still lacking performance on the clay courts. Nonetheless, the 3rd seed is thankful for having the necessary break before his participation in the French Open.

His break has done wonders to his play and Djokovic is willing to bank on that as he continues his foray into the Roland Garros. Djokovic still has to make up for the 25 unforced errors and eight double faults he committed in his last match.

Djokovic is best known for being an all-court player. He specifically focuses on his offensive baseline play. There are three components which Djokovic is good at: his serve, groundstrokes and his defensive play.

The 3rd seed is fairly reliable with both wings though he uses his backhand when making the strokes. With a significant amount of speed, Djokovic can definitely go for the kill with his serve. It’s possible for him to save as many points since his serves can hit extremely flat.

His second serves, on the other hand, are often sliced wide. Another technique that Djokovic can use to his advantage is his sliced backhand along with an expertly disguised backhand underspin drop shot. The drop shot, though, should not be used in excess as it can force an error rather than a score.

Djokovic is to face Jurgen Melzer's who pushed for the continuation of his French Open title bid when he advanced past Gabasvili pulling off a 7-6 4-6 6-1 6-4 win.

Despite the discouraging court conditions back at the Roland Garros courts, Melzer proved to be a reliable player especially when he ended the match in just over two hours.

Gabashvili failed saving three set points during the initial round when he lost his first set. He managed to get the match even but Melzer took command. Melzer who is set make his first into the last 16 of the Roland Garros, played well into the third set before making a decisive serve during the fourth. Melzer is usually compared to Muster who was the title holder back in 1995. Both players often go to the net.
