French Open Super Series: Chen Jin thrashes Ajay Jayaram in the Men’s Singles round-of-16
China’s Chen Jin has powered his way into the Men’s Singles quarter-final after thrashing India’s Ajay Jayaram in the round-of-16 of the 2011 French Open Super Series, at Paris, France, on Thursday, October 27.
The former World Champion and current World Number Five, Jin played relaxed but fast game against the spirited Jayaram, who is placed at number 29 in the Men’s Singles world standings.
The Chinese shuttler took 46 minutes to chuck out the Indian in a scintillating fashion and made his way through to the top-8 stage of the championship.
The start of the first set of this pre-quarter-final contest was interesting when both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck in the first few rallies. They played aggressive and positive badminton and progressed equally in the game with the same pace.
The Indian showed that he is getting closer to the Chinese shuttler as he has improved his skills. Until the break, no one could take a comfortable lead.
After the break, the Chinese tried to accelerate his speed but the Indian was also playing at the similar level. Both shuttlers remained tight in the second half of the game until the concluding points. Jin changed his tactics and executed a few superb drives
and managed to win the game with a close margin of 21-19.
In the second game, the Indian became a little slow and started to make commit unforced errors. He was missing the lines and throwing the bird out of the court. Meanwhile, the Chinese remained calm and composed and continued his winning run in the game.
Jin played a mixed game as he played with aggression and also executed superb defensive strokes. He made the Indian moving around in the court by playing with variation. His smashes landed in the right areas and his superb net play spared no room for Jayaram
to make a comeback in the game.
The planned badminton of the Chinese earned him an easy win in the second set with a margin of 21-14. This 46-minute straight-set pre-quarter-final match ended up with the victory of Jin, who ended it with the score of 21-19 and 21-14.
