French Open Super Series: Chetan Anand ousts Dicky Palyama in the Men’s Singles qualifying round
India’s Chetan Anand has entered into Men’s Singles main round as he has ousted Dicky Palyama of Netherlands in the qualifying round of the 2011 French Open Super Series, in Paris, on Wednesday, October 26.
Anand played remarkable badminton against Palyama, who is currently ranked at number 41 in Men’s Singles world standings, and won the battle after working hard for three games of 44 minutes. The Dutch failed to prove his dominance and lost the match to the
lower ranked Indian.
The Indian remained close in the opening set and delivered stunning performance to bag it with a tight margin. However, he failed to continue his winning form in the second game and lost it in a one-sided way. However, he fought back in the final game and
took it with a reasonable difference.
The opening game grabbed the attention of the local crowd as both shuttlers put up fabulous show of fast and attacking badminton. Anand was quicker in taking the bird early from the net while Palyama was playing aggressive badminton from the rear-court area.
Until the break, no one could take a reasonable lead in the game.
After the break, both shuttlers progressed in the similar fashion and reached at the ending points of the first game. Anand worked really well at this crucial stage and played positive game to take the set with a close margin of 22-20.
In the second game, Palyama played an attacking badminton from the opening points and remained successful in setting up a tremendous lead in the opening half. Anand made many errors and remained trailing behind the Dutch in the whole set and lost it with
a 10-21 score.
In the final set of the match, both played remained neck-to-neck until the ending points of the game. At this crucial stage, Anand changed his strategy and played some superb net shots which helped him to take lose lifts and he finished the rallies by executing
perfect smashes.
The Indian clinched the third game with a margin of 21-18. The overall result of this 44-minute qualifying-round contest was 22-20, 10-21 and 21-18.
