French Open Super Series: Kenichi Tago registers win over Du Pengyu in Men’s Singles round-of-16

Japan’s Kenichi Tago registers a superb win over China’s higher ranked shuttler, Du Pengyu in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 in the 2011 French Open Super Series, on Thursday, October 27, at Paris, France.
The World Number 19 Tago played terrific badminton in the match against Pengyu, who is currently placed at the ninth position in the Men’s Singles world rankings. The Japanese took 64 minutes to beat the Chinese after working extra hard in the court.
The Japanese failed to play well in the opening game of the match and lost it with a one-sided margin. However, he played different badminton in the second set and won it with a decent score. In the final set, Tago was everywhere in the court and spared
no room for the Chinese to come back in the game and won it with a stunning margin.
The match started with the aggression of the Chinese who established an early lead by playing the maximum attacking game. Tago had no answer to the powerful smashes of his opponent throughout the game.
The Chinese played flawless game and took advantage of the defensive approach of his rival. Tago lost the set with a one-sided 9-21 score on the board.
In the second game, Tago lifted up his level of play and remained close to his opponent until the one-minute break. The Japanese was in different mood after the break and played to his full potential. He became stronger in his defensive strokes and played
planned game to take the set with a margin of 21-18.
The deciding set was completely dictated by the Japanese who played with wonderful touch of variation in his shots. The impressive run of Tago in the second game assisted him to maintain pressure on his higher ranked Chinese opponent. Until the 60-second
break, the Japanese was moving far ahead of his challenger.
After the break, Tago remained composed as he played no hasty stroke and progressed smoothly. Pengyu failed to dominate the rallies as his Japanese opponent was playing attacking badminton. Tago finished the third game with a stunning score of 21-10. The
end result of this pre-quarter-final contest was 9-21, 21-18 and 21-10.
