French Open Super Series: Lee Chong Wei tames Marc Zwiebler in the Men’s Singles first round
The World Number One Lee Chong Wei moves into the Men’s Singles second round as he tamed Germany’s Marc Zwiebler in the first round of the 2011 French Open Super Series, on Wednesday, October 26, at Paris, France.
The top seed played his usual game against the lower ranked German and finished off the battle by taking just 31 minutes in the court. He displayed his elite skills and spared no chance for his challenger to fight back in the match. Zwiebler failed to take
even a single game and bowed down in straight sets.
Chong Wei progressed with a wonderful pace in the first game and won it with a reasonable margin. In the second game, the top seed found a good flow by accelerating his speed and won the set without facing any resistance from the German.
The start of the match was interesting when Zwiebler played fast game by keeping his speed at the maximum level. Chong Wei was relaxed and played defensive badminton in the opening points. The Malaysian found his momentum as the match progressed and remained
successful in setting up a decent lead in the first half.
After the break, the German tried to play fast game at the net but failed to break superb defensive of his opponent. Chong Wei pushed the German in all areas of the court without any considerable problem. He remained in complete dominating position and won
the set with a margin of 21-16.
In the second game, Chong Wei built an early lead by playing attacking game. His strong pushes, net play and powerful smashes pushed Zwiebler on the back foot. The Malaysian used his usual deceptive strokes to maintain pressure on his opponent and set up
a wonderful lead in the opening half.
The top seed continued his impressive run by keeping the pace of the game high. Zwiebler failed to find gaps in his rival’s court as Chong Wei’s speed created the huge difference.
The Malaysian finished the set with a big margin of 21-13. The end result of this Men’s Singles first-round battle was 21-16 and 21-13.
