French Open Super Series: Lin Dan topples Joachim Persson in the round-of-16 – Badminton news
China’s ruling World and Olympic Champion, Lin Dan has penetrated into Men’s Singles quarter-final as he toppled Denmark’s Joachim Persson in the round-of-16 fight of the 2011 French Open Super Series, on Thursday, October 27, at Paris, France.
Dan, who is currently ranked at number 3 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, proved his elite skills and showed no mercy to the lower ranked Danish shuttler. The Chinese finished up the battle in straight game by taking just 24 minutes in the court.
The Chinese remained miles ahead of his opponent in the first game of the match and won it with a stunning difference. The Chinese continued his peerless run in the second game and also finished it in the similar impressive fashion.
Dan opened his journey against Persson in the opening set with a fast and attacking way. He was incredibly fast in taking the bird from all areas of the court. He made his rival moving around in all corners of the court. He pushed the Danish on the back
foot by playing to his full potential.
The wonderful performance of the Chinese spared no chance for the Danish shuttler to play his usual game. Persson played under huge pressure and failed to show his skills as his opponent was playing on the highest level of the game. Dan took the first set
quite comfortably with a superb 21-9 score on the board.
In the second game, the Danish shuttler tried to play fast game in the opening points but soon gave up as he failed to match the speed of his opponent. Dan is known for his speed, stamina and powerful smashes and he employed all these skills to thrash his
opponent in the match.
Persson had no answer to the speed and powerful strokes of his higher ranked opponent. Dan finished up the second game by playing attacking badminton with a wonderful 21-11 margin on the score board. The overall result of the match was 21-9 and 21-11.
In the Men’s Singles quarter-final, Dan will take on his compatriot Chen Jin, who defeated Ajay Jayaram of India in the pre-quarter-final contest.
