French Open Super Series: Porntip Buranaprasertsuk beats Ji Hyun Sung in the quarter-final
Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk showed her elite skills as she has defeated Korea’s Ji Hyun Sung in the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 French Open Super Series, in Paris, on Friday, October 28.
Porntip, who is enjoying 12th position in the Women’s Singles world standings, played to her full potential and won the three-game match in 57 minutes after putting up phenomenal show of flawless badminton. Ji Hyun played good but failed to win
the in the end and lost the 57-minute match.
The Thai shuttler took the first game by playing aggressive game. However, lost the second set as her opponent delivered superb performance and levelled the match. The final set was a close battle until the final points when the Thai lady played positively
and earned the game.
Porntip, who has been struggling to find a killing form for the last few months, played wonderful game in the opening set of this contest. She came into the court with aggressive approach and played up to the expectations. Thai lady’s impressive performance
in the first helped her in finishing the game with a margin of 21-15.
It was a completely different situation in the second game when the Korean changed her mind and started to play an attacking game. She started the set in a dominating way and played wonderful net strokes to break the flow of her opponent. Porntip remained
struggling to get rid of the Korean in the whole game but failed and lost the set with a surprising score of 13-21.
The deciding game of this quarter-final contest was quite close when both ladies pushed each other in all areas of the court. The long and attacking rallies entertained the badminton fans at the indoor arena at Paris. Until the break, the Thai lady was moving
slightly ahead of her Korean rival.
The score remained tight in the second part until the ending points of the final set. Porntip controlled the pace and won the set with a 21-18 score on the board. The match finished in 57 minutes with a 21-15, 13-21 and 21-18 score.
In the semi-final, Porntip is set to face Wang Xin of China, who is the third seed in the tournament.
