French Open Super Series: Wang Zhengming passes severe test of Rajiv Ouseph in the round-of-16
China’s young shuttler Wang Zhengming passed the severe test put by Rajiv Ouseph of England and won the Men’s Singles round-of-16 battle in three games in the 2011 French Open Super Series, in Paris, on Thursday, October 27.
Zhengming, who is placed at the 18th position in the Men’s Singles world standings, had to dig deep into his reserves to beat the English shuttler, who lost the third set with a decent margin. The Chinese emerged as the winner in three games and
has booked his spot in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the event.
The Chinese played dominating badminton in the opening set and won it with a good margin. However, he failed to continue his winning run in the second game as Ouseph played wonderful game and took the set to level the score in the match. In the final set,
Zhengming employed every skill and emerged as the winner with a reasonable score.
The match opened in an attacking way as both shuttlers executed powerful smashes to get into a dominating position. However, they failed to create gap until the interval in the first set when the score was quite close.
In the second half of the opening game, the Chinese lifted up his level of play and built a wonderful lead. Ouseph failed to reduce the gap as Zhengming was playing with precision and won the set with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second set, both players entertained the crowd with the top class badminton until the final points. Both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe in the whole game and reached in the ending phase when the Chinese lost his control over the pace of the rallies
and lost the game with a tight score of 19-21.
In the final game, both shuttlers worked well by moving fast and taking the bird early in all areas of the court. However, it was the Chinese who started to construct lead and remained successful in setting up a good difference. He remained ahead on his
English opponent and won the set with a decent margin of 21-17. The 56-minute match ended up with the overall score of 21-16, 19-21 and 21-17.
