French Open tournament officials raise prize money for first round losers as well – Tennis News
There is awesome news for all those players who are going to face a first round exit at the second Grand Slam of the year, the Roland Garros French Open. 64 men and 64 women will receive an extra 3000 Euros for appearing in the
tournament that is almost 20 percent increase from a last year. The total amount of money to be received by every participant losing in the first round has been increased to 18000 Euros by the tournament officials.
So, even if someone has lost it in the opening round, he or she will still gain from this enhanced prize money this year. This has been done majorly to motivate players to perform well in the qualifying rounds and provide some
eye-startling encounters that will raise the viewership of the tournament qualifiers as well.
Long time ago, players that were in the Grand Slam final were considered to be receiving high amount of prize money and rest of the participants were not acknowledged with substantial amount but now a days the trends have changed
completely. Every tier has its own payout and they can earn a lot of money by qualifying for the main round of the tournament only.
Ukrainian tennis ace, Sergiy Stakhovsky, stated, “It would look obscene for first-round losers to get rich for cameo appearances in a tournament, but an increase was needed to keep the journeymen and sub-journeymen happy. So while
the overall prize-money pot has increased by seven per cent, to 18.7 million Euros, the first-round losers are getting a much bigger raise. Those prizes have been increased by 4.17 per cent, with each to receive 1.25 million Euros. But that was by the by.
