Question:

French and Italian Genealogy?

My parents and ancestors are all from France and Italy. None of them or their relatives immigrated to America, so sites like ancestry.com and familysearch.org don't have any data on my family. Can anyone please recommend some good sources of genealogy data for France (northern France) and Italy (northern Italy). Thank you very much.

  1. This is the only decent site for France: http://www.geneanet.org/

There is no good site for Italy. They simply have never embraced genealogy and have never gotten past the permission of the Roman Catholic Church...keeper of most records in Italy more than 100 years ago.

For both countries, you won't find many internet records The LDS Family History Center will be your best resource. You'll need to know the town of birth for each, then you can order the paroise sacramental records for each town and work backwards from there.
