Amelie Mauresmo won the title in Paris in 2009, but the dual Grand Slam champion retired from the sport at the end of 2009, so won’t be back to defend it this year. So can the French, led by Aravene Rezai and Virginie Razzano, ensure the title remains with a local in 2010?

Pennetta is in the friendly half of the draw, but she is not at the same level as Wickmayer or Dementieva.

Wickmayer has played Pennetta twice this year and not yet dropped a set. Dementieva is better than both of them.

Rezai is looking good this year, but has a very awkard draw.

It’s hard to see, even with the home crowd to spur them on. Elena Dementieva, and also Flavia Pennetta and Yanina Wickmayer, are a cut above where the French hopes currently lie, and the title should be won by one of that trio.
