  1. Read any book by Peter Mayle to find out.  The most popular of his books is "A Year in Provence".  I'm just finishing "Encore Provence" which is very enjoyable, too.  And another is "Toujours Provence".


  2. Provence can be explained in some words :

    - sun

    - sea

    - good salad with tomatoes, olives, and many vegetables

    - good pink wine

    - pastis which is an aperitive with an aniseed taste

    - good fishes to eat

    - beautiful flowers

    - perfume of lavender everywhere

    - people playing bowls

    ....and many people in summer...
