  1. What is Qu'est que

My parents said to give you Mes parents ont dit donner vous

    Quoi? What?

Est-ce que tu aimes? You like?

  2. with all due respect to the previous answer, there are some more polite ways to say things, & some things in the other answer  may not be appropriate for your  situation. if you are in your host familiy's house, don't use "tu" for example when talking to your hosts or teachers.

If you want to know how to say something, you can  say:  "comment dit-on.........en francais?" remember "ent" is a nasal vowel sound--don't have any "n" sound at the end of that word--it almost sounds like "como"

do you know how to pronounce stuff? get a pimsleur cd from your library if you can. they are  great.

for what do you like (ie hobbies, etc.) you could say "quelles sont vos activities preferes?"   or to someone your age: "Quelles sont tes activities preferes?"

my spelling may not be perfect but these sentences have been drilled into me in the class I am taking now at intermediate level.

can I use....could be politely asked like this: "Est-ce que je peux utiliser ___________?"

Berlitz phrasebooks are not bad as they have sections for social situations, not just tourism stuff. but have someone help you with how to say things. I am jealous of your chance to go--what a great thing! be polite and try to work on accent; have little things written you could study on the plane. a recording you could put on an ipod is what really helped me.
