French fencers on the roadway to 2012 London Olympics - Fencing News

Last week’s World Cup tournaments that took place in Madrid and Stockholm have turned into the milestones for France to head their way into the 2012 London Olympics.
French sabreur, Julien Pillet, in Madrid and epeeist Ronan Gustin in Stockholm have raised hope for France to qualify into the 2012 London Olympics, next year. Though the way is still too long, it is becoming easier with the achievements being made by the French fencers.
There are more events this weekend that will turn busy for the women and men foilists in an urge to collect more victories for their nation.
Pillet brought home the second podium place from the 30th Villa de Madrid 2011, in the Men’s Sabre World Cup.
Moreover, a surprising finish made by Gustin in the Men’s Epee Grand Prix in Stockholm added another second podium place for France in the achievement list. This accomplishment allowed the French fencer to jump up 50 places in the International Fencing Federation (FIE) standings.
The upcoming weekend is all the more important for the French fencers to take a top spot in the men’s and women’s foil event ahead.
The male and female foilists will leave for Korea to play the Grand Prix named ‘2011 SK Telecom Seoul Trophy’ whereas the female sabreurs will leave for China to play the Women Sabre Grand Prix in Tianjin.
