  1. Hi,

The link below will take you to a page where there is information that will help you. Read the comments of some of the people who have dined at these restaurants. It is quite helpful. Sadly we do not have very many restaurants serving French cuisine in Australia. We do however have a very cosmopolitan range of cuisines on offer, especially in Sydney if you happen to visit that city.

  2. Theres a restaurant just south of Perth called Frenchies that serves traditional French cuisine either set menu or a la carte. Theres a cheese shop in the Fremantle markets that sells French specialty cheeses. Some bakeries in Perth will sell French pastries and breads. David Jones in the city have a gourmet food shop that might sell certain products. Tony Ailhouse near Spearwood sell fantastic specialty international items. You can find French wines and champagnes in any bottle-o (alcohol shop).

Just remember Australian produce (wines, cheeses, food) are amazing as well. Visit the Swan Valley or Margaret River to test. Our beef is fantastic as is lamb, mutton and pork.

  3. When i Stayed at the Richardson i tried out the Opus restaurant... 4/5 stars from me : )

  4. melbourne and sydney, in that order, are the cities in australia that would cater best to the french palate.

if you have visitors from france, who are well accustomed to french cuisine, i would suggest that introducing them to australian cuisine is a better option. take them on a trip to the wineries and restaurants of the margaret river region to experience (west) australian food at it's finest

  5. Check the Blue Cow Cheese Company (bluecow.com.au).  They source great cheeses from all over the world (they will give you a list of distributors in Perth).  Any good delicatessen should have a range of French cheeses.  Try the Fremantle market for great fresh foods.  There are quite a few French restaurents in Perth  (check out the yellow pages phone book when you get here).  Just remember Australia produces some very nice cheeses/wines and other produce  which you should try when you are here.  Margaret River is a great wine as well as cheese producing area near Perth.  Check out some King Island cheeses while you are here as well.  If you came to Melbourne you could actually find a French fromagerie here.

Just remember coming to Australia is not like going to America (food-wise).  We do food pretty well here!

    Have fun and good eating!

  6. Why do you want French food?  Mod Oz Fusion cuisine takes influences from all over the world (including France), and has combined them into an exciting and unique cuisine.  And our multicultural society means that we have cuisines (of varying degrees of authenticity) from all over the world.

  7. You might find the cheese, but you won't find any frogs.

Try some Aussie food, Kangaroo, Emu, Crocodile, Buffalo, Witchetty Grubs,  you don't go on holiday to eat your own type of food.

  8. it might sound boring / cliche to the french, but for the tastiest crepe's & wonderful coffee, try Pierre's (Crepe's & Coffee) in Fremantle.  The proprieter's are french australians (here for 20+yrs?) and are great people, I also know that there is a good sized population of french expats in WA who really do keep french food and culture alive.

we also have some wonderful continental deli's.
