French fry grease for driving?

I seen on t.v. a few times cars and trucks that run on french fry oil from fast food joints, and they get it for free because the fast food company doesn't pay money to dump the fat, works both ways. How do I get these vehicles, are they expensive?

and the way amercia eats I say we will have enough oil for alot of people.

  1. The oil needs to be filtered and converted to bio diesel, but once that is done, any diesel vehicle can be run on it.

  2. donut oil smells better.

all you need is a diesel car.

  3. Any diesel car can be converted to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO).  If you get a diesel and make the conversion to run on WVO, you just have to find a restaurant that's willing to give you their waste oil (which they would otherwise have to throw out), you're all set.  The conversion costs from $450-$2400.  My sister is saving up money to make this conversion on her diesel, which she currently fuels with regular biodiesel.

A useful wiki article on the subject is available here:

    http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/eco-fr...

  4. I saw actress Daryl Hannah on tv talking about this. She has one of these cars.

  5. ahah yah u will cuz America is fat!

anyway these cars are very expensive and they dont perform as well (speed, duribility)

But if someone could improve on this, it would be great!

  6. During WW11 Cooking grease was recycled to produce bombs.

  7. Well any diesel motor can be converted to run on SOV (straight vegetable motor). You can look at www.greasecar.com, for the setups, but it will cost you about $1000 to $3000, depending on your vehicle. My family has 3 5.9L Cummins diesels that run SOV, there hasn't been any problems. There was a little bit of a power loss but nothing significant. It is a great system and if you have the money to convert its a great idea

  8. Cotton K is right, then wrong. Right about diesel vehicles being slow, but dead wrong about them not being durable. A diesel engine will usually last at least twice as long as it's gasoline equivalent.

It is true that waste vegetable oil can be used in place of conventional diesel fuel. Rudolph Diesel, inventor of the diesel engine, originally intended it to be used by farmers who could produce their own fuel (vegetable oil) but for some reason it didn't work out that way.

French fry grease is one of the worst kinds of oil to use though, because it has tons of fats and bits of food in it that need to be filtered out first. Asian restaurants have the best oil.

Because of the recent explosion in the popularity of biodiesel, diesel vehicles have jumped in price.... but you can still get a bargain from people who either don't know about biofuels, or choose not to exploit the demand for them. Such as the 1976 MB 300D I bought for only $400 2 years ago, and the $700 1990 GMC Suburban I'm buying tomorrow.

Daryl Hannah has a 1982 Chevrolet El Camino that she runs on biodiesel.
