I hope you have some reason for going there other than to have a good time. While the French now have their space program there don't forget that the first use they had for the place was as a penal colony. Does the name "Devil's Island" sound a familar note?

Its hot and humid and gets about 100 inches (250cm) of rain a year.

Cholera, typhoid, yellow fever, dengue fever and malaria are endemic.

Worse still, its expensive since everything required for a modern civilized existance has to be imported.

That being said, Cayenne, the capital, is considered by many to be charming. The Musée Départmental has displays on a variety of local subjects  from the ecology to the history of the penal colony. There is a Botanical Gardens and a Museum devoted to the native Guyanese culture.
