French help please, I am a beginner?

Question

I have copied the following but can't add accents as i don't know how to...

Des chapeau X ne se prononce pas I presume this means that you do not pronounce something???

Il y a means there is or tere are but what does Y a-t-il mean???

Mettez au pluriel does this mean write in the plural???

What does this mean

Y a-t-il un cahier sur la table.

Many thanks if I understood what I have to do it makes life better.

1. Means you don't pronounce the X in "Chapeaux" which is the plural of "chapeau"

2. Mettex au pluriel = write in the plural

3. Is there a notebook on the table?

My French is about 20 years rusty....

Chapeau is hat.  Prononce is pronounce.  So, it looks like "do not pronounce hat".....

Y a t il means- there is.  Cahier is book.  So, looks like "there is a book on the table".

Mettez is put, pluriel is plural, so looks like "Put it in plural".

EDIT:  Now after  reading French student's answers, not bad :)

^ whatever that is in french, i forgot..

and then se ne prononce pas   means..

do not pronounce it like this.. or something like that.

mettez au pluriel i think means what you put.

y a-t-il un cahier sur la table i think means something like dont draw on the table? something like that.

im probably wrong, i haven't done french for like two years.

Yes, Mettez au pluriel means "put/write in plural".
