Im going to be a sophmore and I don't know which one to take!

I am also going to take my third year of Spanish as well.

I know French and Spanish are more similar then German and Spanish but if I take French I am afraid I will get confused because of they are so similar.

Also, more people take French than German so maybe I should take German???

And finally, wich one do you think will be more usefull and why (keep in mind I have no idea what my career will be)?

Thank you so much my people!

:)

  1. I've studied Latin, spanish, french and german simultaneously at school.

I personally rarely get any language mixed up. French is closely related to spanish both vocabularily and grammatically so it'll make it easier. Most people would say german is easier (in the first few years of school teaching) but believe me once you choose to study it further it gets really difficult (grammar-wise)

I would choose french therefore for simplicity and for usefulness (most people in germany speak english and french is good for foreign affairs).

  2. French!

  3. Because you already have a background in Spanish, you will undoubtedly find French easier to learn than German. On the other hand, studying German will give you a broader perspective on language in general.

Whichever you choose, you will find that a second foreign language is always much easier to learn than the first one. The first time, you had to learn not only the language itself, but how to learn a language. This time, you only have to do the first.

  4. French definitely! It sounds much better than German, and plus, it's the number one language in the world after English. German will only be of use to you in Germany and Austria, but with French you could go absolutely anywhere and never have a problem (Think Canada, Africa, Australia, anywhere in Europe, South America). Also consider this: France is the president nation of the UN. Also, French is much more easier to learn than German. Don't be worried about getting two languages mixed up, as I can tell you from personal experience that that will NOT happen (I am currently learning French, Russian, and Italian at the same time (for travel reasons), and natively I know Georgian and English.) So that will not be a problem, trust me!

The main thing to consider is which one YOU truly want to go for, don't take French just because everybody else is taking it, etc. Also here's another piece of advice: ask your mom =] She is the one person in the whole wide world who loves you best and who knows  what would be best for you =] so, I hope all of that helped! Sorry I know its a bit longish =]

  5. french is nothing like spanish. i took both of them this year and i saw no similarities. french may be more useful out in the world, but the language uses so many extra letters that i think its more confusing than german. i choose deutsch.

  6. I think that french is the 2nd business language in the world after English. You will need a lot more time to learn German (more difficult) and it will probably less useful in the end: German people all speak english for business anyway.
