French players happy with addition of Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge to Challenge Tour – Golf news
François Calmels and Victor Riu, the two Frenchmen who have tasted success this year on the European Challenge Tour, are relishing the opportunity to return to their home soil to participate in the inaugural edition of the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.
The tournament is slated to start from Thursday, July 25, 2013, and will be played at the stunning Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil, featuring some of the best players from different parts of the world.
Calmels is currently in search for his third victory of the season, which will allow him to get promoted to the tier-one European Tour. On the other hand, Riu is looking to take advantage of the local knowledge – he lives just one-hour drive from the host
course- to add his second Challenge Tour title of the season.
At the same time, another Frenchman Julien Guerrier is also pleased with the Challenge Tour’s decision of staging an event on a course where he plays as a touring professional. According to him, this will offer him a great chance to play against the best
players right at home.
“I’m very happy to be playing a Challenge Tour event at Le Vaudreuil and it will be nice to spend a week in familiar surroundings,” said Guerrier. “I know lots of people there and I should have some good support from friends and family.”
“It wasn’t the course I grew up playing, but I was born nearby. I play there a lot these days as the touring pro and it’s a great course,” he added.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he also said that the host course officials have now a chance of making the course a bit difficult, which will make the event more interesting.
“I’m curious about how they will prepare it,” Guerrier added. “It should be quite easy, but they have the opportunity to make it difficult by making the greens hard.”
The Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge is one of eight new events that are added to the European Challenge Tour’s annual roster, and speaks of the tour official’s commitment to promote the game in Europe and other parts of the world.
