Ils veulent aller à Bruxelles ( to go TO Brussels, use "à" with a name of a city, such as : je veux aller à Paris, je travaille à Londres.... >>> I work IN London )

En fait, il vient de Chicago ( Actually, he comes FROM Chicago, use "de" when it's about where something comes from, such as : Je viens de Paris, le lait vient de la vache... lol )

For this second sentence, there is a tip that indicates you that it's about where he comes from and NOT where he's going to. Indeed, the use of " vient " indicates that you'll probably use " de" , because you could translate it " to come from " . If they wanted to say he's going to Chicago, they would have asked : En fait, il va ... Chicago .

So, in a nutshell :

"Je vais à....

Je viens de..."
