Question:

French royalty???

I've recently read about a French prince (current) who proposed to a Portaguese woman. I was told on the message board that I found the story on that France still has royalty but they don't have titles, or a palace or whatever. I'm confused because I thought France got rid of their royalty back in the 1800s. So does France still have princes, princesses, ladies, etc? Are they like the Greek royals, titled but not ruling?

  1. There is no royalty in France. Period.

  2. Both France and Greece are a republic nation. However, although the government had abolished the monarchy, the royal families are still allowed to continue to use their titles. The french prince is Prince Charles-Philippe Marie Louis d'Orléans (Duke of Anjou) pretender to the French throne. A Pretender is a claimant to an abolished throne or to a throne already occupied by somebody else.

  3. I would imagine there are still people of royal blood alive in France, but they do not rule, have any titles, or anything. This would be along the lines of a distant cousin, or perhaps even a more distant relative. So it would really be hard to even call them royalty even though they do share the same blood line as the last king and queen of France. One can say they are even less significant than the Greek Royals, they at lest have a closer bloodline to what was the ruling family of Greece.
