The 2011 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing Championship is currently underway in Perth, Australia. The tournament is the premier sailing championships in the world organized by the governing sailing institution
of the world, ISAF. The event will be held from December 3 to 18, 2011. On December 14, 2011, the women sailors proved their mettle in the championship. Claire Leroy, captain of the French sailing team did some excellent sailing as she entered the semi-finals
of the championship.
For the 31-year-old Leroy, the 2011 World Sailing Championship has proved to be a worthy milestone. She has been a professional sailor for many years and has won various awards in his career. In the 2007 and 2008 world championships,
she won the female sailing championship. In 2007, she rose to fame in the ISAF to clinch the female World Sailor of the Year award which further proved her worth as the best sailor in the world.
In the 2011 ISAF World Championships, Leroy competed the quarterfinals with her teammates Elodie Bertrand and Marie Riou. They were the top sailing team in the championship from the start and they did win the quarterfinals. They
not only entered into the semi-finals, but they also retained their top spot, taking a huge over all other sailing teams. Apart from French sailors, the Russian sailors also successfully entered into the next round of the championship by beating the Australian
sailing team.
With a quarterfinal win, Leroy has stepped closer in securing her third ever ISAF world championship. Although Leroy stands at the second spot in the world in the category of female sailors, she is eyeing world number one female
spot. For this to happen, she would focus on winning the semi finals and then earn a win in the finals. Leroy defeated Anna Kjellberg of Sweden to cruise into the semi finals.
The quarterfinals of the sailing championship were held in the Fremantle Harbour course, which is located in Western Australia. All races were held on the course but as the quarterfinals progressed, the organizers advised the sailors
to sail offshore. This was done as the part where the sailors were sailing did not have enough wind.
