French shuttlers have created history by beating the Hong Kong team in the Sudirman Cup 2011, in China, May 26. The victory with a 3-2 margin has enabled the side to enter into the top teams of the championship.
In the next match, France will be up against Singapore in this biggest mixed team championship, in which top badminton nations from around the planet will participate to earn glory for their respective countries.
After winning the match against Hong Kong, Fabrice Vallet, team manager of France, said, “This is a fantastic achievement for us. To beat an Asian team in the Sudirman Cup - it has never been done by any other French team.”
It was a shocking defeat for the talented Hong Kong team, which is one of the top badminton countries in Asia along with China, Korea, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia. France has defeated any Asian team for the first time in this mixed team championship.
Fabrice expressed his feeling and said, “I'm extremely happy and hope the players can continue their good work against Singapore. We have a new set-up back home and the players believe in themselves.”
Now, the French team has no fear of losing the next match against Singapore, as they have achieved more than their target. The victory has put France in the top European countries along with Denmark and England, which are the most dominant badminton nations
in Europe.
While talking about France’s next match, the manager further added, “They no longer step on the court thinking they are going to lose. They have no fear of anyone and while we may not be the strongest team, we have great fighting spirit.”
The French players clinched three matches in the categories of Mixed Doubles, Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles. The shuttlers who scored points for France are Baptiste Careme, Sylvain Grosjean, Brice Leverdez and Audrey Fontaine.
In the next mixed team match, France is going to fight against Singaporean shuttlers today.
