This paragraph from a recent story says it all:

SUROBI, Afghanistan - Insurgents ambushed a group of elite French soldiers as they climbed a mountain pass, killing 10 troops in a militant stronghold outside the capital. In a separate coordinated attack, a team of suicide bombers tried unsuccessfully to storm a U.S. base near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

"Elite" french soldiers? Do they even exist?

  1. I would would say American Soldiers because I live in U.S.A and because I'm American.

  2. 10 French soldiers have been killed and some on here are mocking French soldiers. These guys are just as good, brave or not so brave as any other American British,Canadian  soldiers and do we mock them when they are killed. Elite or not does not even come into the scenario. There were just 10 brave men doing their job in a country none of us would even wish to visit.Give them all the credit where its due Their country of origin is irreverent. Signed an ex British squaddie

  3. I guess the Taliban doesn't recognize the white flag of surrender.

  4. Every army in the world has its own version of elite (highly trained soldiers).  I don't especially like the French, but I would never disrespect their troops killed in battle whether they were elite or not.  Even Green Beret's are not bullet proof and when one of them is killed it does not mean they were not well-trained or cowardly.

  5. Beyond any intended humor, why WOULDNT elite french soldiers exist?

Believe it or not, many of europes elite have better equipment than our american special forces due to thier military being smaller, and more focused.

  6. 10 French soldiers died and your laughing at them. You do realize that the French helped in the war of independence? Treaty of Alliance 1778. America might not be a country if the French, among others, did not help and intervene. Anyways, besides pointing out that you've received help from the French - this year 92 American Military deaths have occurred (info from august 8), in Afghanistan. So, in case you didn't already know, everyone can die.

Many more have died in previous years, and unfortunately more will probably follow. Who dies and who doesn't is not just based on skill, but the scenario; tactical position, weapons, number of opponents, defensive or offensive, etc. Circumstance can be a *****.

Also ditto/support for Micheal W, firewomen and jonwishes, its nice to know there are morally correct people out there.

  7. I thought they were just cheese eating surrender monkeys...

  8. elite french soldiers are equally to wannabee rookie kids in playschool i hate french soldiers ,they think they can overtake britain in the olympics, they just got thrashed by us

  9. Yes Elite French soldiers exist. Brave French warriors exist. Do not confuse the French people with the French government.

  10. You're a ****** a*****e!!!

Show a little respect for these 10 soldiers who died in Afghanistant.

The Talibans and AlKaeda didn't do nothing against France. These soldiers just died for the USA and because of 9/11.

That was not a little ambush like in Iraq or something, hundreds of talibans were waiting for the French in the moutains with RPGs. They shot during 12 hours and the French fought well and killed dozens of talibans. And during the attack, your "skilled" USAF pilots bombed the French instead of bombing the talibans!!!.

You should better look at your 4,000 deads in Iraq... Why did they die??? For MDW??? or for oil??? Ahahaha

  11. France is the shitiest country ever all france ever does is complain. we saved there *** in two wars (then america saved ours but dats not point) and they still go on bout stuff. france is g*y.

  12. Yes, the French and our other NATO allies all have extremely well trained troops.  It's very low class to make fun of men who are fighting and dying on our behalf in accordance with their NATO obligations.  Grow up.

  13. Good Question!

  14. Where they wearing white? Jk I didn't mean that. Just to be clear I don't think anyone (at least I'm not) is making fun of those particular men who died bravely. My comment was really aimed at France, but not at those men. I really hope that's understood. And honestly I'd wish a lot of the people giving thumbs down would do the same for the posts that are bashing Americans. This post isn't making fun of them.

  15. Every country has an elite fighting force.  America has the Seals.  And I believe France has the Frogs  : )

  16. I bet the families of the slain soldiers really appreciate the humor displayed here for the death of their loved ones.

  17. Heh, yeah - it's probably been members of the FFL and/or paratroopers.

The FFL's frenchness is in name only.

  18. no

  19. elite french soldiers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaahahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahah... cheesus, ahahahhahahahahha....whew, man your killin me...blue bonnets..ahahahahaha...

  20. Yes, the French have some very good troops. You really can't extrapolate from those two instances, since the first is one that risks ambush and the second is a defensive situation that typically is riskier for the attacker.

The same error in thinking is why there's still the popular misconception about the relative merits of American and German troops in WW II. People assume that since the Americans had higher casualty rates, they must not have been as good. In fact, that the US was generally on the offensive and the Germans on the defensive is more than adequate to explain the difference.

  21. Yes, they are called "The French Foreign Legion"

  23. Ambushing a French soldier is like kicking a soccer ball.
