The 38-year-old, who spent seven years in Ligue 1 from 1993 to 2000 before moving to the English Premier League, is of the view that the supporters in France are more aggressive and demanding as compared to the supporters in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011.
In an exclusive interview to ligue1.com, the one-time Marseille player said that his time in France was very important in his career and he learned a lot by playing for two of the best clubs in the country.
Praising the training facilities available in France, the former Metz midfielder stated that players playing in Ligue 1 are lucky in a sense that they have such excellent training facilities. And apart from that, Pires believes that unlike other leagues,
young players are well looked after here, which is great for French football.
"My time in France was very important in my career. We are lucky to have excellent training facilities, and the young players are really well looked after.”
The 38-year-old added that he learned a lot from his time in France and has thanked the supporters for showing faith in him and backing him through thick and thin. The former France international added that moving to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 was a big step
in his career before eventually moving to the Premier League.
“I was also fortunate to have benefited from the academies at (hometown team) Reims and at Metz. People showed faith in me and I was given a chance to play, I think I proved my quality. I went to Marseille, which was an important step for me before moving
abroad.”
On a question regarding French supporters, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Pires said that supporters in France are very demanding and they don’t forgive players’ mistakes easily. The 38-year-old added that supporters are very enthusiastic and they just can’t see their beloved team
losing, which is a good thing but it has its side effects as well.
“The supporters are very demanding, they don’t make life easy for you, and they tend to go from one extreme to another.”
