French top 14 round six: Preview
Week six of the French top 14 is set to go over the weekend and it is certain to be another exciting round in French rugby. Toulouse seems to have gotten back on track after a huge win last week, while Toulon continues to struggle, unable to find their offence. Meanwhile, clubs such as Bayonne and Clermont Auvergne hope to maintain their impressive early season form.
Bayonne vs. Clermont Auvergne
Bayonne hosts Clermont Auvergne at home in Stade Jean-Dauger in round six.
Bayonne continues to play impressive rugby after coming off a win over Bourgoin-Jallieu last week. However, they will need to play even better against a tough Clermont side if they hope to maintain top spot.
Clermont continue to surprise this year. They were able to rack up 27 points last week against a very defensive Montpellier side. If they are able to defeat Bayonne they will leapfrog into first spot.
Bayonne is currently in first with 17 points, while Clermont is in third with 14.
Montpellier vs. Castres
Montpellier will host Castres at Stade Yves-du-Manoir over the weekend.
Montpellier is coming off of a tough loss to Bayonne last week and will be looking to get back on track. However, they will have a tough time shutting down a potent Castres offence.
Castres are coming off a win over Racing Metro in round five and will be interested in maintaining their form. They will need to be strong on the ball on the offensive end if they hope to wear down a tough Montpellier side.
Montpellier is currently in sixth with 13 points, while Castres is in fourth with 14 points.
Perpignan vs. Bourgoin-Jallieu
Perpignan will host Bourgoin-Jallieu this weekend in Stade Aime-Giral.
Perpignan is coming off of a tie to Agen last week. Perpignan has remained inconsistent all season and their upcoming round six match-up should give them an opportunity to find their form.
Bourgoin have struggled all season, nevertheless their rugby has been steadily improving and they hope to take advantage of a weak Perpignan side.
Perpignan is currently in ninth with 10 points while Bourgoin is in last with five points.
Racing Metro vs. La Rochelle
Racing Metro will be taking on La Rochelle at home in Colombes this weekend.
Racing has had trouble putting together a consistent game and will be looking to improve after suffering a loss to Castres last week.
La Rochelle are coming off of an embarrassing 50-3 loss at the hands of Toulouse last week and will be looking to reverse their fortunes against Racing.
Racing Metro are currently in seventh with 13 points while La Rochelle are in 12th with nine points.
Stade Francais vs. Brive
Stade Francais will host Brive at home in Paris over the weekend.
Stade Francais are coming off of a loss at the hands of Biarritz last week and have seemed to drop off since their impressive start. They will have to improve if they hope to remain near the top of the table.
Brive are coming off an impressive upset over Toulon and look to have the skill to really challenge Stade Francais in round six.
Stade Francais are currently in fifth with 13 points, while Brive are in eighth with 11 points.
Toulon vs. Agen
Toulon welcomes Agen to Stade Mayol this weekend.
Toulon are coming off of their third loss of the season and will be hoping to get their record back to .500. Five games in, Toulon has an great opportunity to get back on track against a weak side.
Agen tied Perpignan last week in a game in which they played a very strong first half. Fortunately for Agen, Toulon has not had its best form this year, giving them a real shot at beating one of the League favourites.
Toulon are in 10th with 10 points, Agen is in 13th with seven points.
Biarritz vs. Toulouse
Biarritz will host Toulouse at Parc des Sports Aguilera in the rounds featured match.
Biarritz is coming off of a win over Stade Francais, but will have to work a lot harder to overtake a powerful Toulouse side in round six.
Toulouse have also struggled with consistency this season. Nevertheless their 50-3 win over La Rochelle looks to have woken up their offence.
