  1. The French were the first Europeans to permanently colonize what is now Quebec, parts of Ontario, Acadia, and select areas of Western Canada, all in Canada.Their colonies of New France (also commonly called Canada) stretched across what today are the Maritime provinces, southern Quebec and Ontario, as well as the entire Mississippi River Valley.

The first permanent European settlement in Canada was at Port Royal in 1605. The territories of New France were Canada, Acadia, and Louisiana. The inhabitants of Canada called themselves the Canadiens, and came mostly from northwestern France. Many French Canadians are the descendants of the King's Daughters of this era.

A large majority of French Canadians live in the province of Québec. The more than 5.6 million Québécois, or French-speaking residents of Québec, make up 82 percent of that province’s 6.8 million citizens. More than 80 percent of all Québec residents live in urban areas, the vast majority residing in the metropolitan region of Montréal.Another 1 million French Canadians are scattered throughout Canada’s nine other provinces and two territories. The 485,000 French-speaking residents of Ontario, or Franco-Ontarians, form the largest Francophone community outside of Québec. Acadians, numbering 242,000, constitute one-third of the population of New Brunswick. French-speaking communities in Ontario and the western provinces of Canada have far less political and economic power than the Québécois or the Acadians.

  2. Your question isn't clear. Are you talking about people born in France who emigrated to Canada? Are you talking about those who arrived in Canada 300 years ago, or last year?

As for how the French adapted to society through work, I'm so glad I'm not in school any more and don't have to answer dumb questions like that one. I can't answer that because, frankly, the question makes no sense to me. My only thought would be that they did it the same way anyone would, French, English or Zulu.  They got jobs, got paid, paid bills.
